Job Description
In this role, you'll be responsible for managing a portfolio of commercial business with a focus on profitability and growth. You'll review both new and renewal business, assess risk, prepare quotes, and respond to coverage questions within your assigned authority level. As you develop strong relationships with agents, you'll help drive positive business flow and enhance client satisfaction. You'll be able to exercise a high degree of independence in your decision-making and be supported by a collaborative team. This position offers flexibility with either hybrid or remote work options, depending on location and role requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver profitable outcomes on less complex niche business by selecting and pricing risks effectively, ensuring they meet required terms and conditions of coverage.
- Analyze inspection reports, location, risk, financials, and other data to identify new or unresolved concerns.
- Collaborate with Risk Control to arrange inspections, follow-ups, and resolve service needs for insureds.
- Take action on renewal accounts, addressing potential issues and ensuring corrective measures are in place.
- Escalate referrals in a timely manner for additional review or approval from senior underwriters when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with service expectations, including timely release of renewals, non-renewals, and notices.
- Achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) for your portfolio, driving growth and profitability.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with distribution partners through regular calls, in-person meetings, and ongoing communication.
- Coordinate with the distribution team to build a healthy pipeline, resolve conflicts, and ensure smooth change management.
- Foster a high-performing, collaborative culture, both within the team and with external partners.
- Provide mentoring and support to junior staff, helping them develop their careers and succeed in their roles.
- Conduct peer audits and review underwriting decisions for team members.
- Assist with training new hires and internal promotions by offering continuous mentoring and feedback.
- Review and approve referrals for lower authority associates, ensuring high standards are met.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support team and organizational goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
- Progressing towards an insurance designation (e.g., CPCU, IIA) is a plus.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in commercial underwriting, with 1-3 years in a property and casualty insurance company.
- Experience working with churches or religiously affiliated institutions is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of industry regulations, terms, practices, and processes in property and casualty insurance.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey clear and concise information.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.) and other Microsoft Office products for strategic analysis.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when working with numeric data.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service orientation and a commitment to delivering a positive client experience.
Compensation:
- $56,400 - $94,000, based on experience, plus bonus eligibility
- $62,100 - $103,500, based on experience, in CA, CT, MA, NJ, NY, and PA, plus bonus eligibility
