Job Summary:
Works collaboratively with the clinical departments and Information Technology, participating in the design, implementation and maintenance of clinical information systems as they apply to clinical services within the hospital. Develops an understanding of the application functionality, reporting capabilities, interfacing and integration associated with clinical applications assigned.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in planning, development, implementation, upgrading, maintenance and evaluation of clinical information systems.
- Maintain components of the clinical information systems, including revisions, testing system changes, and integration of changes into the clinical environment.
- Implement applications, tools and processes that assist clinicians with the management of data across clinical applications assigned.
- Assist with system customization including the development of alerts/hard stops, data integration, order generation, automation of documentation and enforcement of adherence to workflows.
- Work with physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals establish innovative ideas and processes to improve workflow.
- Serve as a resource person for daily operational issues within the electronic health record.
- Achieve and maintain Credential Trainer status in the EMR for the appropriate areas of support – hospital/ambulatory.
- Provide orientation and training for provider and clinical applications for providers and clinicians.
- Provide orientation and training for providers, clinical students and other clinicians on processes and EMR functions. This may occasionally occur outside normal business hours.
- Provide continuing education of changes of provider and clinical applications for providers and staff.
- Champions the clinical workflow and processes essential for the adoption of new technology and processes.
- Participates in meeting federal funding quality mandates.
- Analyze and prioritize work requests that are related to clinical information systems and clinical processes.
- Will assist with utilization management of the Inpatient floor, ensuring that patients are placed in the correct status per medical necessity. Compile and review medical information, working with MCG guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with physicians on peer-to-peer reviews, denials, and appeals.
- Responsible for the evaluation, recommendation and implementation of all hardware and software systems in collaboration with affected departments.
- Create documentation of educational materials on using clinical systems.
- Serve as the Epic and other EMR vendors Clinical Contact for education and support.
- Analyze the impact of technology in the clinical work processes and communicate issues/topics with IT and nursing leadership.
- Attend educational sessions offered by Epic and other vendors to enhance knowledge of clinical applications.
- Participate in educational programs and in-services and attend outside meetings as required.
- Adhere to compliance with all Federal Guidelines for HIPAA.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Work Location: On-Site in Carthage, IL
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or 2 years clinical experience in EMR usage.
- Knowledge in computer concepts, personal computers and related software and PC connectivity.
- Experience in clinical systems and implementations and support including system configuration, maintenance and software upgrades.
- Detail oriented and capable of exploring innovative solutions to solve complex problems and address issues with a combination of delivered and custom-developed tools.
- Ability to perform systems needs assessment requiring good communication skills with users and vendors.
- Good decision making.
- Logical thought and problem-solving skills under pressure.
