Job Description

Colorado Children's Campaign is seeking a Policy Analyst to support their policy team!

WHAT WE DO

We advocate for the development and implementation of data-driven public policies that improve children's well-being in health, education, early childhood, and family economic prosperity.

As the leading voice for Colorado's children at the state Capitol and in communities across the state, the Children's Campaign has been at the forefront of hundreds of policy wins for kids. Among the numerous laws and programs, we've helped establish are the Colorado Preschool Program, Child Health Plan Plus, the Great Teachers and Leaders Law, and the creation of the new state Department of Early Childhood.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Policy Analyst will work closely with team members across Colorado Children's Campaign and lead a cross- cutting portfolio of policy work including advocacy and support for child and family health, youth success, family economic prosperity, and early childhood initiatives.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

This role will be responsible for a series of tasks that include, but are not limited to, the following:

Advancing Policy Change

  • Supporting the Directors of Policy and other staff in executing strategies that advance the organization's policy agenda through legislative and regulatory pathways.
  • Conducting research and analysis of state and federal policies; developing policy briefs, fact sheets, and other publications to support advocacy efforts.
  • Assisting Policy Directors in the development and management of coalitions to advance policy change, including coordinating advocacy strategies with internal team members and external organizations.
  • Participating in coalitions focused on child well-being issues, including attending convenings, communicating with coalition members, and providing updates to staff and community members.
  • Assisting Policy Directors in the planning and execution of stakeholder input sessions to inform and shape policy proposals.
  • Assisting Policy Directors in tracking, analyzing, and making recommendations on legislation and regulatory policy.
  • Attending hearings and meetings at the State Capitol and state agencies to track relevant bills and provide updates and analysis to staff.

Collaboration

  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders, including community partners, advocacy groups, and policymakers, alongside the Policy and Advocacy Team.
  • Collaborating with the Research Team to analyze and interpret data, research, and policy trends related to child well-being in Colorado.
  • Working with the Communications Team to create content for newsletters, social media, policy updates, public communications, and presentations, including materials for KIDS COUNT in Colorado!
  • Supporting the Development Team with policy and program information for grant proposals and reports.
  • Assisting with bill tracking and Policy team meetings, including agenda development and minute-taking as needed.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION

  • Associate's degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred, in Political Science, Public Policy, Education, Social Work, Health, or Early Childhood related field, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • 1-year of experience in public policy, research, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, advocacy, or communications on the state and/or federal level, project management and working in a nonprofit are strongly preferred, or any equivalent combination of experience, lived experience, and/or special skills.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of virtual collaboration platforms are preferred.
  • Organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks. Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to embrace, support, and integrate Colorado Children's Campaign philosophies to promote and demonstrate its commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racism.

  • Expected annual salary range of $55,000 - $63,000 based on experience
