Your role as a Painter:
You will be primarily responsible for maintaining maintenance on all interior and exterior painted or wall-covered surfaces throughout the ballpark. This position includes proactively searching for opportunities for aesthetic improvement in order to uphold Petco Park to its standard as a world-class ballpark.
All the responsibilities we will trust you with:
- Provide prompt, professional and courteous responses to all requests, including those from food and beverage service provider and other contracted building service providers
- Maintain and perform maintenance on all exterior and interior painted or wall-covered surfaces in the Ballpark, including: office areas, mechanical rooms, back-of-house and public areas as directed by the Director, Engineering:
- Office Areas
- Paint office areas on a cycle to be determined by the Padres and directed by the Director, Engineering
- Make minor repairs to the sheetrock walls and touch up paint, as needed
- Make repairs to wall coverings, as needed
- Maintain stock of standard paint colors
- Club House Areas
- Paint club house areas on a cycle to be determined by the Padres and directed by the Director, Engineering
- Make minor repairs to the sheetrock walls and touch up paint, as needed
- Make repairs to wall coverings, as needed
- Refinish lockers on an as needed basis
- Maintain stock of standard paint colors
- Perform inspections of seats to determine when repairs are needed
- Make repairs to railings, as needed
- Seating Areas
- Perform periodic inspections of seating areas to determine when touch-up painting is needed
- Make touch-up paint repairs to railings, as needed; or on an annual basis, whichever occurs sooner
- Maintain standardized paint stock for seating areas
- Common Area Finishes
- Maintain all painted surfaces on walkways and stairs
- Maintain all paint on fencing surfaces
- Work with others to repair or remove graffiti
- Make painting repairs to concrete, as needed
- Make painting repairs to metal non-structural components
- Make painting repairs to sheetrock, plaster, stucco and other walls and finishes
- Maintain stock standard paint products
- Signage
- Touch up or replace damaged signs
- Install temporary signage on an as-needed basis
- Assist with ordering signage, as needed
- Assist Facility Engineers
- Assist Facility Engineers with painting on as-needed basis as directed by Director, Engineering
- Provide and maintain all MSDS on various paint products
- Proactively search for opportunities to improve the physical facility, including identifying problem or deficient areas, developing immediate solutions and recommending work flow efficiencies
- Proactively recommend opportunities to improve current facility operations, protocols, processes and best practices. This includes suggestions on protocol and process improvement, how work is scheduled and sequenced based on facility use and non-use, budget reduction and savings opportunities, safety suggestions, etc.
- Ability to successfully troubleshoot unplanned challenges and offer cost-effective, safe, and compliant solutions
- Order paint stock and other painting supplies as directed by the Director, Engineering
- Able to adjust paint colors to match existing finishes, as necessary
- Aid in training and development of fellow painters
- Clean and paint all equipment and surrounding areas
- Maintain superior appearance and working condition of all assigned areas
- Compose written, factual reports of occurrences of damage or vandalism at the ballpark
- Perform all work in a safe manner
- Comply with all written company policies
- Represents the Club in a positive and professional manner at all times
- Other duties as assigned
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most:
- Read and understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form including Material Safety Data Sheets
- Knowledge of spray guns (pneumatic or electric)
- Knowledge of basic hand tools (i.e., socket sets, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, saws and hammers, etc.)
- Proficient computer skills including experience with MS Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc., and general knowledge of basic office equipment including copier, laser printer, telephone, and computer
- Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and effectively work well with others in a collaborative, respectful manner
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills with capacity to handle high volumes of detailed work, multi-task and manage projects on strict deadlines
- Maintain professional demeanor with a high degree of discretion, integrity, and accountability
- Maintain consistent, punctual, and reliable attendance
You will be required to meet the following:
- Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum 2 years’ previous experience in the commercial or industrial painting industry
- Fluently bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
- Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed
- Able to travel as needed
- Minimum physical requirements: able to work both indoor and outdoor, in a variety of weather situations; travel to and gain access to various areas of the ballpark for prolonged periods of time; position requires standing 100% of the time, the ability to lift and transport 50lbs or more, climb up and down stairs and ladders, access remote work areas and confined spaces (i.e. crawl spaces, roofs, etc.), and the ability to use full range of manual dexterity (i.e.: sitting, squatting, bending, kneeling, lifting and walking)
- As a condition of employment, you must successfully complete all post-offer, pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to a background check
Pay and additional compensation:
Per the California pay transparency law, the base pay rate for this full-time position is $32.00. As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, job-related skills and any other factors the San Diego Padres considers relevant to the hiring decision for this position.
