In this role, you will:
- Assist physicians and the radiology team during biopsy and fine needle aspiration (FNA) procedures.
- Prepare the procedure area, position patients, and maintain sterile techniques.
- Organize and prepare equipment, slides, and containers for biopsy and FNA procedures.
- Accurately label and prepare specimens for transport to the histology lab.
- Ensure proper specimen handling, preservation, and documentation in compliance with lab protocols.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to guarantee timely specimen processing.
- Maintain accurate records of patient information and procedural details in the EHR.
- Adhere to HIPAA, infection control, and safety protocols when handling sensitive information and materials.
- Safely dispose of biohazardous materials in accordance with OSHA standards.
We require:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a medical assistant or phlebotomy training program preferred.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent is preferred.
- Prior experience assisting in interventional radiology, biopsies, FNA procedures, or specimen collection is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of histology specimen preparation or experience in a pathology lab setting is a plus.
- Strong phlebotomy skills and attention to detail in specimen labeling and documentation.
- Proficiency in medical terminology and interventional radiology procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, physicians, and laboratory staff.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of patient care.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel to Riverhead and Patchogue offices.
