Job Description Summary
The lead technician of central sterile processing oversees the entire range of reprocessing services for the hospital and the inventory management for the surgery department. An extensive reprocessing skill set is required for success in this position.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation and troubleshooting of cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization equipment.
  • Support all departments with reprocessing needs
  • Clean, decontaminate, inspect, and assemble a variety of complex surgical instruments and instrument sets including, but not limited to:
    ----- Rigid and flexible endoscopes
    ----- General surgery and orthopedic instruments
    ----- Delicate ophthalmic and microvascular instruments
    ----- Power equipment
  • Maintains compliance with quality assurance measures
  • Responsible for inventory management
    ----- Orthopedic implants
    ----- General surgery inventory
    ----- Placing stock/special orders
    ----- Annual year-end inventory
  • Enforce principles of infection control when indicated
  • Assist in establishing and updating standards of supplies and materials used in the area of responsibility, including sterile preparation, autoclaving, and operating room materials, preparing and submitting requisitions for inventory items; developing inventory standards and maintaining stock at the established levels; and reprocessing sterile items approaching expiration quarterly, and maintaining a list of instrumentation needing repair.
  • Prepare items for shipment to New Bolton Center for gas sterilization
  • Instruct OR staff and Harcum students in instrument reprocessing
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide information regarding best practices in sterile processing
  • Interact closely with the surgery supervisor and surgery section chief




Qualifications

  • An associate degree and at least two years of experience as a Central Processing Technician or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • CRCST certification is preferred but not required
  • Additional certifications (CER, CIS, CHL) will be considered for higher-level advancement.
  • Ability to use Windows-based applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Office, etc.)
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, busy environment, both independently and with a team
  • Ability to multi-task and complete assigned tasks
  • Strong time management, organization, and communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of methods of aseptic technique, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization
  • Comprehensive understanding of operation and troubleshooting of equipment used in reprocessing

Monday-Friday, 10 am-6 pm
