George Fox University's Career & Academic Planning Center is seeking a dynamic and collaborative individual to serve as a Career & Academic Coach and guide students to recognize their God-given uniqueness, maximize their academic and experiential learning, graduate on time, and develop life-long career skills. This individual will join an innovative office providing outstanding undergraduate academic and career coaching.
About the Job: A Career & Academic Planning Coach serves our community by providing guidance to our students as they achieve their vocational goals and develop plans to accomplish those goals in preparation for graduation and career success. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing academic coaching to traditional undergraduate students in multiple majors, assisting them in setting educational goals, developing plans to accomplish those goals, and providing guidance to ensure completion of graduation requirements in a timely fashion. (40%)
- Providing professional coaching to traditional undergraduate students, equipping them to take full advantage of career development strategies and experiences by equipping them with comprehensive resources. (15%)
- Serving as a liaison between the Career and Academic Planning Center and assigned academic departments to represent the goals and initiatives of the center and facilitate academic department partnerships. (15%)
- Updating and maintaining accurate student record information in the University's integrated database; participate in new student orientations to provide advising and registration information. (10%)
- Implementing communication strategies with new and current students to promote retention and facilitate progress toward graduation; communicate academic progress information to students; use student record information to inform student communications. (10%)
- Reviewing and managing internship opportunities in Handshake and communicating experiential learning opportunities to students in your advising majors. (10%)
- Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
- By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
- Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
- Other duties as assigned.
A day in the life of this position: There are typically three styles of work days for a Career and Academic Planning Coach!
- Appointment days will consist of scheduled student appointments from 9am to 4pm (exception being mandatory breaks). This kind of day also involves providing backup drop-in support as needed.
- Drop-in days are similar but, in place of scheduled appointments, coaches are available for drop-in appointments to maximize accessibility for students. Responding to emails/voicemails/committee work is fit around both appointment and drop-in days.
- Project days are dedicated to time for coaches to work on various projects including development of roadmaps, auditing files, completing student record exceptions, coordinating projects with academic partners, etc. On this type of day, student appointments are not scheduled.
We're looking for candidates who have:
- A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in a customer focused environment.
- Proficiency with technology and data entry.
- The demonstrated ability to work as a team member to accomplish organizational and unit goals.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to deal with the public and campus community in a helpful and courteous manner; ability to obtain and use information with tact and discretion.
- Solid organizational skills and the demonstrated ability to work independently on multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
- The ability to understand and administer curricular requirements.

Preference Will be Given to Those Who Have the Following Attributes:
- Coaching experience - demonstrated ability to assist people with setting goals, making plans for reaching those goals, and following through for goal attainment.
- 2 or more years of experience with providing support services to students from diverse backgrounds, in a college setting with the focus of retention and graduation.
- Experience with student personnel, adult education or related fields
- Flexibility and availability for some evening and weekend work, including university commencements.
